History
How £25 became 21 vehicles and 3 fuel depots
Just before the Second World War, George Ford borrowed £25 for a horse and cart. By the end of the 1960s his sons Jack and Alan were bringing coal to the West from Wales and the Midlands by rail in 12 bulk tippers and from local collieries and rail sidings. They were also beginning to see the future of Fords in oil. Now the next generation - Richard, Adrian, and Michael Ford - are the directors of the large-scale fuel oil company presented here.
Ford Fuels today
The company now operates an extensive fleet of tankers and lubricant vehicles to provide a next-day service covering Somerset, Dorset, Hampshire, right across South Gloucester. With deliveries of bulk antifreeze extending as far as Devon and Cornwall. Our depots at Farrington Gurney near Bristol, Stalbridge in Dorset and Membury in Berkshire, are well placed to serve our growing, loyal, customer base, and the company is now the largest distributor of TOTAL lubricants in the UK.
And tomorrow...
At Ford Fuels we confidently expect to expand our business in both distillates and lubricating oils, with more sites for Keyfuels. George Ford might well be amazed by much of what we are doing today - but he would certainly recognise the vision and industry with which we face the future.
